Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass, conduct recons en force throughout the AO, and provide road security to ZA 102914. Co A continued to secure LZ Irma Jay and destroy LZ Bass. Co B moved from LZ Bunker Kill to LZ Bass. Co C conducted local patrols around LZ Milehigh and D Co remained OPCON to 3rd Bde. D1/35 moved to Dak To. 2/35 moved from LZ Bass to Camp Enari. Recon Platoon patrolled to ZA 033995.

Plans: Co A will continue to present mission. Co B will move to Camp Enari for a stand down. Co C will continue to patrol around their firebase. Co D will remain OPCON to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon will patrol to ZA 048998. Construction of LZ Irma Jay will continue.

 

2 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass, assist in the relief of sister Battalions, and provide road security to ZA 102914. Co A continued to destroy LZ Bass and provide security for LZ Irma Jay, Co B moved to Camp Enari for a stand down. Co C remained at LZ Milehigh and assisted the move of 2/9 Arty. Co D was OPCON to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon patrolled to ZA 048998. CIDG conducted a recon to ZA 982912 with a second element patrolling toj ZA 020940.

Plans: Co A will continue present mission, Co B will remain on stand down. Co C will conduct local patrols and prepare to move. Co D will remain OPCON to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon will patrol to ZA 064973. CIDG will continue to patrol in the vicinity of the same areas as today.

 

3 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass, conduct recons en force throughout the AO. and provide road security to ZA 102914. Co A continued to destroy LZ Bass and provide security for LZ Irma Jay. Co B was conducting a stand down at Camp Enari. Co C prepared to move to LZ Irma Jay. Co D remained OPCON to 3rd Bde. Recon Platoon patrolled to ZA 064973.

Plans: Co A will continue their present mission. Co B will continue the stand down. Co C will continue to evacuate LZ Milehigh. Co D will remain opcon to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon will prepare to move to ZA 148998 and secure the heavy mortars platoon which will move to the same location.

 

4 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass, build LZ Irma Jay ZA 151925 and LZ Ingrid ZA 150948, and secure the road to ZA 101924. Co A continued to destroy LZ Bass and provide security for LZ Irma Jay. Co B continued the sand down at Pleiku. Co C assisted the relief of A2/9 Arty and continued to police LZ Milehigh, Co D remained opcon to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon and 4.2 mortar were moved to LZ Tango ZA 045973 to LZ Ingrid.

Plans: Co A will continue to destroy LZ Irma Jay. Co B will remain on stand down. Co C will continue to police LZ Milehigh. Co D will remain opcon to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon and 4.2 will construct LZ Ingrid.

 

5 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass and provide road security to ZA 102914. Co A continued to destroy LZ Bass and secure LZ Irma Jay. Co B remained on stand down. Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass and secure the road from LZ Bass to ZA 102914. Co A continued to destroy LZ Bass and provide security for LZ Irma Jay. Co B remained on stand down. Co C was moved from LZ Milehigh to LZ Irma Jay. Co D remained OPCON to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon and 4.2 mortar continued construction of LZ Ingrid.

Plans: Co A will continue to destroy LZ Bass and begin construction of firebase at ZA 141910. Co B will remain on stand down. Co C will continue construction of LZ Irma Jay. Recon and 4.2 mortar will continue construction of LZ Ingrid.

 

7 July 1968

 

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass, and provide road security to ZA 102914. Co A continued to destroy LZ Bass and selected LZ Thunder as their new firebase. Co B remained on stand down. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay and Co D remained opcon to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon and 4.2 mortar continued construction of LZ Ingrid.

Plans: Co A will begin construction of LZ Thunder. Other elements will continue present missions.

 

8 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass and provide road security to ZA 102914. Co A continued to destroy LZ Bass and construct LZ Thunder. Co B returned to LZ Irma Jay and began construction on the perimeter. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay and Co D remained OPCON to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon and 4.2 mortars continued to construct LZ Ingrid.

Plans: Co A will continue construction of LZ Thunder and conduct a patrol to the W of LZ Irma Jay and continue construction of the LZ. Co C will conduct a patrol to the east of LZ Irma Jay and continue construction of the LZ. Recon platoon will patrol to the NW of LZ Ingrid and 4.2 mortars will continue construction of LZ Ingrid.

 

9 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Bass and provide road security to ZA 102914. Co A continue to destroy LZ Bass and construct LZ Thunder. Co's B and C conducted recons en force to the W and E of LZ Irma Jay respectively. Co D remained OPCON ot 3rd Bde. Recon platoon conducted a recon en force to the NW of LZ Ingrid.

Plans: Co A will conduct a recon en force to the SW of LZ Thunder. Co's B and C will continue construction of LZ Irma Jay. Co D will remain OPCON to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon will continue construction of LZ Ingrid.

 

10 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued construction on LZ's LZ Irma Jay, LZ Ingrid and LZ Thunder in conjunction with local amushes and patrols. Co D remained OPCON to the 3rd Bde.

Plans: Construction will continue on the LZ's. Co A will conduct a recon en force to the SW of LZ Thunder. Co's B and C will sweep to the E and W of LZ Irma Jay respectively. Co D will remain OPCON to the 3rd Bde.

 

11 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to secure LZ Irma Jay, LZ Ingrid and LZ Thunder. Co A continued construction of LZ Thunder and LZ Ingrid after conducting a recon en foce to the SW of LZ Thunder. Co's B and C continued construction on LZ Irma Jay and conduct recons en force to the west and east respectively. Co D remained OPCON to 3rd Bde.

Plans: Co A will continue construction of LZ Thunder and supervise the preparation of LZ Murriel. Co's B and C will be conducting cordon and search operations at ZA 142730 and ZA 150740 respectively. Co D will remain OPCON to 3rd Bde.

 

12 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued firebase construction and conducted cordon and search operations. Co A continued construction of LZ Thunder and LZ Murriel. Co's B and C(-) conducted combat assaults in conjunction with cordon and search operations at ZA 142736 and ZA 150740 respectively, resulting in 3 VC suspects apprehended. Co D remained OPCON to 3rd Bde.

Plan: Co A will continue to construct LZ Thunder and LZ Murriel. Co's B and C will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D will remain OPCON to 3rd Bde. 1st platoon Co A and 4.2 platoon will continue constructing LZ Ingrid.

 

13 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct three firebases and conduct recons en force. Co A conducted a recon en force to ZA 150905 and returned to LZ Thunder. Co's B and C continued construction of LZ Irma Jay. Co D remained OPCON to 3rd Bde. A1/14 10 ele and the mortar platoon continued work on LZ Ingrid.

Plans: Co A will continue construction of LZ Thunder and LZ Murriel. Co's B and C will conduct recons en force NW and NE of LZ Irma Jay respectively. A1/14 10 ele will conduct a recon en force to the N of LZ Ingrid and the recon platoon will patrol to the SE of LZ Irma Jay.

 

14 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct three firebases and conduct recons en force. Co A continued construction of  LZ Thunder and LZ Murriel. Co's B and C continued construction of LZ Irma Jay and conducted recons en force to the NW and NE of the LZ. Co D remained OPCON to 3rd Bde. Recon platoon conducted a recon en force to the SW of LZ Irma Jay and 1/A Co conducted same to the NW of LZ Ingrid.

Plans: Co A(-) and recon platoon will conduct a cordon and search operation at ZA 235739. Co's B and C will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D will remain OPCON to 3rd Bde.

 

15 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct firebase and conducted a cordon and search operation. Co A(-) and recon platoon conducted a cordon and search operation at ZA 235739 in conjunction with Vietmamese National Police and PSY-OPS teams. Co's B and C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D remained OPCON to the 3rd Bde. The mortar platoon and 1st platoon of Co A continued to construct LZ Ingrid.

Plans: Co A will move from LZ Thunder to LZ Murriel and continue to construct that LZ. Co B will conduct an operation Vic ZA 063683 to determine the enemy losses at that location due to contact with 7/17 Cav elements plus airstrikes and artillery. Co C will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D will remain OPCON to 3rd Bde.  Mortar and recon platoons will deploy to ZA 195684 to support Co B.

 

16 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct three LZ's and conduct a recon en force w/one rifle company supported by 2 tubes of 4.2 mortar and 1 81mm mortar. Co A moved to LZ Murriel, at loc ZA 141910. Co B conducted a combat assault to ZA 065677 and conducted a recon en force to ZA 060684 where enemy 75 mm recoilless rifles were fired at the Plei Mrong CIDG camp on 15 July. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D remained OPCON to 3rd Bde. 4/2 mortar platoon and the recon platoon moved to ZA 093684. Recon platoon's mission was to secure the mortars while they fired in support of Co B.

Plans: Co A will continue to construct LZ Murriel. Co B will be extracted from the operation area and return to LZ Irma Jay. Co C will conduct a combat assault to Vic AR 816734 where it will move into a night location and proceed to AR 854719 and conduct a cordon and search operation on 18 July. Co D will revert to 1-14 control. The mortar platoon and the recon platoon will return to LZ Ingrid. At 17/0600 1-14 will assume resopnsibility for the defense of LZ Mary Lou at ZA 228835, the ASP at Kontum, and the Kontum Bridge. 2/A/1-10 Cav will become OPCOM to the 1-14 at 0600.

 

17 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct LZ Irma Jay, LZ Murriel, and LZ Ingrid. Co A continued to move extraneous gear from LZ Thunder to LZ Murriel ZA 141910. Co B returned to LZ Irma Jay operation in the Plei Mrong area. Co C conducted a combat assault to AR 854747 and established ambushes at AR 854735 and AR 835725. Co D returned to 1-14 control and remained at Vic LZ Mary Lou, Kontum Bridge, and the ASP at Kontum. The heavy mortar platoon returned to LZ Ingrid and LZ Irma Jay respectively from an operation in the Plei Mrong area.

Plans: Co's A and D will conduct a relief to place w/Co A replacing Co D an LZ Mary Lou and Co D occupying LZ Murriel. Co B will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co C will cordon and search a village at AR 845719. Heavy mortar platoon and the recon platoon will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay and LZ Ingrid respectively.

 

18 July 1968

C/1-14(-) detained a total of 10 VC suspects. All suspects were taken in by National Police.

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct three firebases and conduct cordon and search operations throughout the AO. Co's A and D conducted a releif in place as stated in yesterdays plans. Co C conducted a cordon and search operation at AR 856718 and was air-lifted back to LZ Irma Jay. Heavy mortar platoon and recon platoon continued to construct  LZ Ingrid and LZ Irma Jay respectively. At 1958 hours 1/1/1-14 was combat {unable to read} to AR 856718 to reinforce a LRRP team that was in contact. The LZ was cold and night location was established in area Vic of the LZ.

Plans: Co A will continue to be at LZ Mary Lou, the ASP, and the Kontum Bridge. Co B will begin a 2 day search clear operation Vic ZA 183830. Co C will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D will continue to construct LZ Murriel. Heavy mortar platoon and recon platoon will continue to construct LZ Ingrid and LZ Irma Jay respectively.

 

19 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct 3 firebases and conducted a search and clear operation. Co A continued to guard LZ Mary Lou, the Kontum Bridge, and the ASP. Co B conducted a search and clear operation and established a night ambush at ZA 168614. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D continued to construct LZ Murriel. Recon platoon and Heavy Mortar continued to construct LZ Irma Jay and LZ Ingrid respectively.

Plans: Co A will have the mission of coordingating all defenses of LZ Mary Lou since the 3rd Brigade CP is moving to LZ Oasis. Co B will search and clear to ZA 128018 and establish a night ambush. All other elements will continue their present missions.

 

20 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct three firebases and conduct a search and clear operation. Co A continued to defend LZ Mary Lou, the Kontum Bridge and the ASP at Kontum airstrip. Co B continued to search and clear from their night location to ZA 128818 where they established a night ambush. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D continued to construct LZ's Murriel and LZ Ingrid. Recon platoon continued to construct LZ Irma Jay.

Plans: Co A will continue present mission; Co B will return to LZ Mary Lou to help defend the LZ. Co C will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D(-) will conduct a recon patrol to Vic ZA 105923 and return to LZ Murriel. 1/A/1-14 will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 149548 and return to LZ Ingrid. Recon platoon will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay.

 

21 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct three firebases and conducted three recon patrols. Co A continued to secure LZ Mary Lou, the Kontum Bridge, and the ASP. Co B conducted a recon patrol from their night location to LZ Mary Lou where they will be OPCON to Co A for defense of the LZ. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D conducted a recon patrol to ZA 105923 and returned to LZ Murriel. 1/A/1-14 conducted a recon patrol to ZA 145948 and returned to LZ Ingrid.  Recon platoon continued to construct LZ Irma Jay.

Plans: Co's A and B will continue present missions. 1/C/1-14 will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 153945 and return to LZ Irma Jay. 1/D/1-14 will return to the area of todays patrol to destroy spider holes and trail markings. Co D(-) will continue to construct LZ Murriel. Recon platoon will conduct a patrol to ZA 157915 where it will destroy bunkers and a trench complex found on an earlier mission.

 

22 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to construct three firebases and conducted one recon patrol and one search and clear operation. Co A continued to guard LZ Mary Lou, the Kontum Bridge, and theh ASP. Co B continued to guard LZ Mary Lou. Co C(-) conducted a recon patrol to ZA 153945 and returned to LZ Irma Jay. Co D continued to construct LZ Murriel while 91 element destroyed spider holes and trail markings Vic ZA 145958. Recon platoon conducted a search and clear operation to ZA 157915 and destroyed bunkers and trench lines.

Plans: Reference item #5---1-14 will reorganize. Co's A and B will continue present missions. Co C will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D(-) will begin to destroy LZ Murriel. Heavy mortar platoon will move to LZ Mary Lou. Recon platoon will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. 1/D/1-14 will destroy LZ Ingrid.

 

23 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued two recon patrols and destroyed LZ Ingrid. Co A continued present mission. Co B conducted a recon patrol to Vic ZA 232816 and returned to LZ Mary Lou. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D conducted a recon patrol to ZA 141938 and prepared to be combat assaulted to ZA 156762 to exploit an intelligence report of 2000 NVA being in the area; however rain prevented the move. Recon platoon moved to LZ Murriel to protect B/1-92 Arty in case Co D moved. Heavy mortar platoon moved to LZ Mary Lou.

Plans: Co's A and B will continue present missions. Co C(-) will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 152955 and return to LZ Irma Jay. Co D will be on stand-by to be airlifted anywhere in the AO. Recon will be moved to LZ Mary Lou.

 

24 July 1968

 

Summary

The Golden Dragons conducted one reconnaissance en force and had one company on standby to move anywhere directed. Co's A and B continued present missions. Co C(-) conducted a recon en force to Vic 146954 and returned to LZ Irma Jay. Co D remained on alert to move anywhere in the Brigade AO as directed. Recon platoon remained on LZ Murriel for LZ security. Rain prevented other activity.

Plans: Co's A and B will continue present missions. Co C will continue to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D will move by foot to Kontum and be trucked to LZ Mary Lou where it will depart on a recon en force operation Vic ZA 210815. Recon platoon will secure LZ Murriel.

 

25 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons conducted a search and clear operation and continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co's A and B continued present missions. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D conducted a foot march from LZ Murriel to Kontum where they were picked up by trucks and taken to LZ Mary Lou. From this location they conducted a search and clear operation to ZA 208807 and continued to the road (QL-14) at ZA 235813 and proceeded South for a night lauger at ZA 231787. Recon platoon secured LZ Murriel.

Plans: C's A, B, and C will continue present missions. Co D will cordon the villages of Plei Tram (AR 7973) and Plei Tower (8073) and return to LZ Murriel by helicopter. Recon will continue to secure LZ Murriel.

 

26 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons conducted a company sized night ambush. Co's A and B continued present missions. Co C continued to construct LZ Irma Jay. Co D conducted a night ambush vicinity ZA 239749. Recon platoon provided security for LZ Murriel.

Plans: Co's A and B will continue present missions. Co C will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 152944 and return to LZ Irma Jay. Co D will conduct a cordon around villages located at AR 8073 and AR 7973 while ARVN forces will conduct the search. Recon platoon will secure LZ Murriel.

 

27 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons continued to conduct cordon and search operations, road security missions, and a recon patrol. Co's A and B continued present missions. Co C conducted a recon patrol to jZA 151945 and returned to LZ Irma Jay. Co D conducted a cordon and search operation in coordination with National Police and PRU's as planned with 15 suspects being apprehended. Recon platoon provided security for LZ Murriel.

Plans: Co A will move the remaining platoon at Mary Lou and the Co CP to the ASP at Kontum. Co B will continue present mission. Co C will provide convoy security and secure LZ Irma Jay. Co D will begin a training and inspection program. Recon platoon will secure LZ Murriel.

 

28 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragoons provided convoy security and escorted a convoy. Co A moved its CP to the ASP at Kontum to reinforce that position. Co B continued present mission. 2/C/1-14 escorted the 2-9 artillery convoy from ZA 218918 to LZ Irma Jay. Co D conducted an inspection of personnel and equipment. Recon platoon provided security for LZ Murriel. Headquarters CP moved to LZ Mary Lou.

Plans: Co A will conduct a patrol to AR 790922 and return to the ASP. Co B will conduct a search and clear operation to ZA 185852 and return to LZ Mary Lou. Co C will provide road and mine sweep security from LZ Murriel to LZ Irma Jay. Co D 1st plt will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 209808 and return to LZ Mary Lou. Recon platoon will move to LZ Irma Jay.

 

29 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons conducted 2 recon patrols and a search and clear operation. Co A conducted a recon patrol to AR 789925 and returned to the ASP at KTM. Co B 3rd plt conducted a search & clear operation to ZA 182850 and returned to LZ Mary Lou. C/1-14 1st plt conducted mine sweeps and road security from LZ Murriel. C/1-14 3rd plt conducted a recon patrol as stated in yesterday's plans.

Plans: Co A will construct additional fortifications at ASP and Kontum Bridge. A platoon of Co B will conduct a recon patrol to VIC AR 777835. A platoon of Co C will patrol to ZA 150945. A platoon of D co will patrl to VIC AR 777827 and return to Mary Lou. Recon platoon will patrol ZA 101929 and ZA 110935 and return to LZ Irma Jay.

 

30 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons conducted three recons in force and one search and clear mission. Co A continued to construct fortifications at the ASP and the Kontum Bridge. Co B conducted a recon patrol and AZ 777835. Co C conducted a a recon patrol to ZA 150945. Co D conducted a recon patrol to AR 777827. Recon conducted a search & clear operation to ZA 101929.

Plans: Co A will participate in joint search & clear operation with ARVN forces/ Co B will provide road and minesweep security from LZ Mary Lou to LZ Irma Jay to ZA 165913 and assist in the desruction of LZ Mary Lou. Recon will destroy LZ Murriel.

 

31 July 1968

Summary

The Golden Dragons conducted one joint operation w/ARVN forces and provided road, minesweep, and convoy security. Co A participated in a joint US/ARVN search and clear operation with negative results. Co B guarded the ASP and provided minesweep and convoy security from LZ Mary Lou to LZ Irma Jay and the return trip. Co C assisted in the destruction of LZ Murriel and provided additional minesweep security from LZ Irma Jay to ZA 165912. Co D secured LZ Mary Lou. Recon assisted in the destruction of LZ Murriel.

Plans: Co A will continue to construct defenses at ASP and the Kontum Bridge. Co B will conduct a recon patrol to VIC ZA 185832. Co C will conduct a recon patrol to vic ZA 124919. Co D will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 195810. Recon platoon will begin a two day cordon & search operation and establish a night ambush vic ZA 176946.
