Greetings...
My chapter of the Korean War Veterans of N C started a year or so ago
going to the gravesite of all the Medal of Honor
recipients of the Korean War and
performing a ceremony to honor them for their service. We are hoping some of you can join us this year to honor Golden Dragon, Bryant Womack. Bryant Womack is one of three deceased MOH veterans in N.C. of the Korean War. I was told by Womack's sister that one of the Lts from his outfit came to them after his death and told them about how he died and that his body never hit the ground... it was supported by other members of his unit. Womack's ceremony will be March 13th at 12:00PM in the church yard
where he is buried. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 2330 Big Level Road, Mill Spring, North Carolina
(Directions below) I have received confirmation that Quincy Collins, A POW from the Vietnam War who was imprisoned at the infamous Hanoi Hilton (during the same time as John McCain), will be our speaker.
We plan to continue this program each year as long as some of our members are able to go and perform. Our thoughts are that a MOH recipient should receive some recognition for his service and not be forgotten. We plan to do a ceremony to recognize all veterans of all wars at a later date.
We will be in Fayetteville, N.C., at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum, on April 17, at 10:00 AM, to meet with Rudy Hernandez, the living MOH recipient from the Korean War to celebrate his 79th birthday. We will meet him at the museum and from there retire to a local restaurant (approx Noon) for dinner.
If anyone would like to be added to the list of veterans to be notified of the ceremonies we conduct for MOH recipients, just send me a note, and I will add you to the list. Plans are in the works for Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies. If you would like to attend, we would be most happy to welcome you at these events.. Thank you and we hope to see you there...
